Prior to marriage with Lettie Gray, he lived in a rooming house in Chicago, where he met and got to know Al Capone.
He went to the University of Iowa, but did not graduate. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was raised in the Episcopalian faith.
Moved to St. Petersburg area of Florida and lived with his daughter Henrietta Goodden in the early 1980's. Moved into a retired home in Clearwater, FL after the daughter Henrietta had a stroke.
He died Jan 4 or 6 1991.

Raised as an orphan by an aunt. The aunt was referred to as Mother Hughes. Another aunt and uncle were, Martha and Howard Pearson. He was the arcthicet for the world's fair in 1901. Governor of missouri, Christopher (Kit) bond is Lettie Lee Horst's cousin. Patriarch Alan P. Green (wife was Josephine) was the founder of the AP Green Brick company in Missouri. Manufactured fire bricks. National Geographic magazine in the 1950's had an article about Greens, Stealy, and Bonds.
She was a teacher, graduated from Cotty College in Missouri. Met her husband, Elvin Horst who was a travelling salesman in Missouri. Elvin Horst may have been working for the Fulton Tool and Dye Works out of Lyons, Iowa. After they got married he worked for the AP Green Brick Company. Their first home was in Chicago?
Edward Hughes a Banker in Tuscon, Ok. The estate went to Oral Roberts University. 30
