Crest - A dexter cubit arm holding in the hand a club proper, underneath the crest an empty shield argent. The American Branch of the Culver (Colver) family bears the above crest. Dexter - Refers to the right-hand side. Since the shield was held in front of the warrior, that means to the left of the spectator. Cubit Arms - The arm and hand cut off (couped) at the elbow. (The human arm is used chiefly as a crest.) Proper - Refers to any change, animal, vegetable, or inanimate object when tinctured in its natural color. Crest - That part of achievement of arms which appear above the helmet. Argent - Denotes the tincture white or silver signifying purity and innocence.
