His family would bring the wagon from Smith's Prairie to Boise. It would take 3 or 4 days. Left home at 13 or 14. Ferry at Anderson Ranch Dam.
Owned service station in Idaho City also hobby of gold mining. Loved to fish.

Interview of Charlene Strahler.
Lived at 3020 Gerrard Street, Boise, Idaho. The home was purchased about 1934. Raised cows, pigs, goats, chickens, vegetables, fruit trees. In later years also raised flowers. The home was added on to in the early 1950's. Al Smith worked at Morrison-Knudsen Co as a machinist for 39 years.
Medical Notes:
Grandpa had bone marrow and skin cancer.

Alfred married Charlotte Ione CARTER, daughter of Charles Leslie CARTER and Anna Grace MAUS, on 10 Aug 1928 in Mountain Home, Elmore, ID. The marriage ended in divorce. (Charlotte Ione CARTER was born on 28 Feb 1905 in Creston, Union, Iowa and died on 30 Apr 1985 in Boise, Ada, ID.) The cause of death was Lung Problems.
