   General Notes:

Edward was the founder of the Culver family in America and the Puritian emigrant came from Middlesex, England, where John Winthrop the younger recruited his band of colonists. Edward sailed from the Port of London in 1635 in one of the ships which carried John Winthrop's company of emigrants to America. No records is available which reveals Edward's parentage. His name appears on the original covent entered into by members of the Colony at Boston for settlement of the "Contentment" (Later changed to Dedham, Massachusetts) September 10, 1636. He married Ann Ellis, daughter of John Ellis (also one of the first settlers at Dedham). Edward's occupation is reported as a millwright and wheelwright. Edwards participated in the Indian Wars and was held in great esteem by King Uncas of the Mohicans. He and his sons participated in King Philip's War, helping to defeat the tribes in December 1675. For his service as a scout and Indian fighter, Edward was reqarded with four grants of land. Edward moved to Connecticut in 1668.
